Learn how to measure your head to make a perfectly fitting hat, with a soft brim.
You will alter the pattern to fit, and make your hat from the pattern you create; understanding how the fabric you select limits or expands the possibilities of what you create. The project includes making your own piping, creating channeled ruching, inserting lining, and tips for pressing and finishing.
Use a fabric you love – medium weight cotton, linen and silk through to heavy weight wool and tweeds are suitable. You will alter your pattern if necessary to suit your fabric choice. Piping could be a contast colour, or from the same fabric if you like subtle. Contast textures work well too – velvet piping on tweed, brocade piping on linen…..
Paper pattern & internal workings (interfacing, piping cord etc) are supplied, together with black cotton lining - but you will need to bring
1 mtr of at least 135cm wide fabric for hat
20cm of at least 135cm wide fabric for piping (piping is traditionally made from fabric cut across the grain, but for this project we will make piping cut from the straight grain)
